Because Ken's ego is weak he is unable to maintain his 'work' as a successful and competitive cadet. His ego cannot resolve the intrapsychic conflict between his id and superego. Ken felt fear that he would be punished for his sexual desires for his mother and aggressive feelings towards his father. Ken feared that his penis would be taken away from him.
